Are you a handicapped Person?

When ask if you are handicapped, we bet you answered, “No.” It is actually quite rare for individuals to consider themselves handicapped. But in a real sense we are all truly handicapped in some significant way. Those are all truly handicapped. Those who are conventionally labeled as handicapped are not that different from you an me – who deny we are handicapped.

People who insist the handicapped find that one of the first (and most difficult) problems is to get individuals to understand and accept their “defect” in reality terms. We know and understand how hard it is for each of you to recognize and accept a handicap, defect or limitation. But we would like you an assist with this inventory of possible handicaps. Simply check those items where you can feel your handicap might be limiting you in certain circumstances. Be honest now!

We have listed only 20 of many handicaps we might have inventoried. But these sufficient I number to get across the idea that each of us is probably handicapped in some significant way – at least potentially. Of course most of us do not allow defect(s) to seriously handicap us. But do you have a fair appraisal of just how limiting your defect(s) might be? Even your best friends usually won’t tell you.

A certain defect of deficiency can be more or less serious depending upon a number of things:
1. Our attitude toward it.
2. Our ability to recognize it and work around it.
3. The kind of work we do.
4. The presence of compensating strength s
5. How others and our culture react to our handicap.

Rehabilitation counselors are specialists who help in correcting deficiencies, to learn acceptance of uncorrectable defects, and to achieve both social and vocational success in proportion to full human potential remaining.

The art of asking questions

Most childr3n learn rather early in life that when you don't know something you ask someone who might have an answers. But as you grow into sophisticated adulthood you learn that asking good questions, that truly facilitate communication is an art. We've chosen the questioning approach to check out your skill-level in this area - answer TRUE of FALSE.


  1. It's better to start out with the hardest questions and wind up with the easy ones. ______
  2. Try to make many of your questions answerable by a simple yes or no. _________
  3. The way you ask the question is at least as important as what you ask. ________
  4. You should largely ignore the "feelings" components and focus on the logical content. ______
  5. To get the valid answers (facts) you should somehow box him or her in. ________
  6. Showing a sincere interest in the other usually reduces his defensiveness. ________
  7. If it's usually better to use open-ended questions rather than closed-end ones. ________
  8. Avoid posing threats ti his status, future, or well-being. ________
  9. Try to read hidden meanings and get right to the issue. _________
  10. If he's not answering your questions, point that out of him. __________






EGO QUIZ has been a little tricky with the questions to try to challenge the depth of your questioning skills, but tricky questions are not usually desirable in ordinary communications.
#1 is false as just the opposite is true in order to first build rapport.
#2 is false as you are not getting him to talk with simple yes and no answers.
#3, 6,7,8 are all true and very basic to good communications. Answer "false" to #4 because you must read accurately his feelings and attitudes and show him you understand.

Only the lawyer-type situation would call for boxing him in (#5 false). Threat usually leads to falsification, rationalization, and anger.
#10 is false too as that is usually too threatening and he will likely back off. You should indeed try yo read his hidden meanings, but should be very slow and gentle in surfacing them in your questioning (#9 false.)

If you got all these questions correct you may indeed be a good question asker. Do I Have A Sense Of Humor?


Do you get lot of fun out of life in spite of its hardships? Are you a lot of laughs of the other people? Or is your life more of a trig-comedy? Let's take a peek into you Senses Of Humor by answering true or false to these:
  1. ___I am quite capable of playing a clown successfully
  2. ___I'm afraid I get laughed at often when I intend no joke.
  3. ___The use of ethnic humor on TV is always inappropriate.
  4. ___I laugh at the majority of the jokes my friends tell (sick puns excluded.)
  5. ___I often appreciate the humor even when the jokes are on me!
  6. ___Slap-stick comedy was never funny to me quite frankly.
  7. ___I never laugh at the risque joke.
  8. ___Some people often see humor in everyday happenings, but not to me.
  9. ___I have to be in the mood or have an alcoholic lift of to lighthearted.
  10. ___My sense of humor has truly saved me from some bad times.
Some people "play the clown" because they don't feel capable of relating effectively any other way (fell inferior). But persons with a good sense of humor should be able to play the clown successfully sometimes (#1-True), and be ale to laugh at themselves (#5-True), but not feel like they are the butt of jokes (@2-False).

One should be truly amused by more than 50% of the jokes told by friends (with the exclusions mentioned) (#4-True), unless you have the bad luck to be stuck with some pretty unfunny friends right now. Ethnic humor, like the most other humor, can be offensive, but is often poignantly funny (#3-false).

Persons who can never laugh at the risque, (mind you we didn't say "dirty") joke are probably up-tight about sex and hence somewhat inflexible (#7-false). Persons who have to get in the mood or need alcohol to laugh are probably up-tight too (#9-false).

Some persons think slap-stick is too low a comedy, but most persons with a flexible sense of humor will find some of of it quite amusing (#6-false). Persons with good, supportive sense of humor will find humor in quite simple everyday experiences (#8-false) and will find that their mental equilibrium was often saved by it (#10-true.)
