Can You Condition Your Teacher or Your Boss?

If you have ever felt they were trying to brain wash you or otherwise manipulate you at school or at work, you have then felt like a victim subject to the superior power of the person in authority. But now the fairly simple but highly powerful forces of behavior mod at are your disposal to in a sense get back at those powerful folk. EGOQUIZ simply going to list the number of behavior reinforcements you will need to learn to use effectively if you are going to become more of a behavior engineer, Just check which ones you think you can learn to do.

  1. ___I will use the power of a big smile when my boss (this stands for teacher, parent or other powerful person in your life) does something which i like.
  2. ___I will learn or use variety of positive reinforcement immediately following behaviors I approve (e.g., compliments, agreeing, nodding, returning the before, etc. )
  3. ___On the other hand I will use negative reinforcers immediately after behavior I fell having a negative influence on me (e.g., frown turn away, say how it makes you feel, tell how you disagree,, or how you would prefer it). I will avoid being unreasonable or egocentric here.
  4. ___I will become a more systematic observer on what kinds of positive and negative reinforcers work with which people in what situations; be flexible in adapting to the kinds of reinforcers that truly modify the behavior in the desired directions. (It's even fun and constructive to keep track of the number of reinforcers and the type you use and also the changed behaviors in the "boss.")

That's the basic formula for becoming a behavior engineer. Whether you realize it or not you are already using the positive and negative reinforcers in your current behavior reactions. Start the very basic principles in a more systematic, planned way so that you will gain more control over your destiny.

You parent, teacher, or your boss might complain that you are trying to influence him. But he can hardly complain if your behavior too starts being m0re purposeful and rewarding. For therein lies the "rub." Because you will both have to start pleasing each other more really to make it work.

Advertising Can Sell You?

You can imagine the thousands of dollars big advertisers spend each year to learn how to best sell you (and the many millions) on their particular products. They want to understand your persuasion psychology. Do you have sufficient defenses against their sophisticated techniques? This topic wants you to test some of the rather basic facts about the psychology of advertising with you on these True-False items.

  1. ___Catching your attention and focusing it on their product is very basic.
  2. ___ Factors like motion, sound intensity, vivid color, and color contrast are used to grab your attention, regardless of your intentions.
  3. ___ The advertisers know what basic needs (s3x, power, pride, social recognition, success) are powerful activators of most people.
  4. ___ They are usually successful in linking up their product with your need satisfaction.
  5. ___ Motivations of which you are unconscious actually influence your buying behaviour.
  6. ___ The vast majority of persons buy only those things they truly need for a good life.
  7. ___ Negative appeals to fears should never be used by reputable advertisers.
  8. ___ Ploys that go, "You deserve our product," are not very effective.
  9. ___ The advertising industry credits itself with raising the standard of living.
  10. ___ Advertising is designed mainly for suckers and push-overs.

Some of the Quiz items today will raise some disagreement, but scoring key reads:
Items #4, 6, 7, 8, 10 should be False, all others, True.

The first two questions point up the very basic requirement of capturing your involuntary attention first with eye and ear-catching vivid stimuli. But advertisers know they cannot hold your voluntary attention without tying into your needs, motives, and interests very quickly. Thus, they spend a great deal of research money learning how best to accomplish the linking to their products.
#4 is false, however, because they usually don't sell you, or many other individuals. They only need to sell a reasonable number out there in their audience - usually not more than 25% or 30%.

They have learned very well that appeals to unconscious motives (#5), to fears (reasonable ones) such as death, rejection, failure (#7), and the indirect, pamper-yourself approaches, are usually highly effective and not too offensive. Advertising is created for the masses of John Q Public, not just for the suckers. It is usually quite successful, apparently has helped raise standard of living. But has it been in the direction we truly wanted to go?

If you got all these questions correct you may indeed be a good question asker. But EGOQUIZ knows too that it talks many other personal qualities such as patience., respect, friendliness, good will, and probably some training if it's your business to be able to ask good questions. For example, how many miles do you travel each week just by going to work (or school)? (10% are allowed.)

Determine the number of errors you made and judge your-self on there norms:
Exceptionally observant: 0 or 1 error
Very observant: 2 or 3 errors
